STRUCTURED CABLING

CAB-08 PLACE, SECURE AND TERMINATE STRUCTURED CABLING, TWISTED PAIR FOR CERTIFICATION
Aim

To give skills necessary to competently cable integrated voice and data systems to the Australian standard – AS 3080 to meet client communication needs in a commercial environment

Objectives

By the end of this course each delegate will be able to:

  • Install cabling to support an integrated voice and data system
  • Identify the components of an integrated voice and data system
  • Test the installation and interpret the results of these tests
  • Identify different types of UTP and STP cable
  • Identify and list the components of a structured cabling system
  • Identify and correctly use termination tools
  • Terminate UTP cables correctly

COAXIAL CABLING

CAB-09 PLACE, SECURE AND TERMINATE COAXIAL CABLE
Aim

To give skills necessary to competently install, terminate, and test coaxial cabling

Objectives

By the end of this course each delegate will be able to:

  • Identify the various types of coaxial cabling system
  • Describe the construction of coaxial cable
  • Identify different types of coaxial cable
  • Identify and correctly use coaxial termination tools
  • Terminate coaxial connectors correctly
  • Test the terminated coaxial cable safely and accurately

OPTICAL FIBRE CABLING

CAB-10 PLACE, SECURE AND TERMINATE OPTICAL FIBRE CABLE
Aim

Introduce the concepts of optical fibre cabling, understand the different forms of fibre optic cable, gain an understanding of the propagation of light through the fibre and to understand the various connection and splicing methods of optical fibre and where they are used in installations

Objectives

Upon completion of the course each delegate will be able to:

  • Fully understand how light is propagated and how it is transmitted by optical fibre cable
  • Describe the light sources used for optical fibre transmission
  • Understand the various types of fibre and when each is used
  • Understand the construction of optical fibre cable
  • Be conversant with the various types of jointing and terminating of fibre cables
  • Identify the different types of fibre available
  • Perform a fusion splice in fibre
  • Install a mechanical splice in fibre
  • Install connectors on optical fibre ends in various methods available
  • Test a splice and interpret the results
